PCSGA Members & Community Involvement

PCSGA members are involved in their communities in a variety of ways. Many growers help their local communities detect and resolve threats to water quality, and others serve on state and local commissions, committees, and task forces dedicated to creating balanced public policy that protects the environment and allows Pacific Coast shellfish farmers to continue their family businesses.

Bill Taylor of Taylor Shellfish served on Governor Gregoire's Puget Sound Partnership, which was tasked with designing a strategy to protect and restore Puget Sound.

In 2005, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration presented Taylor Shellfish with the Walter B. Jones award for "...their significant contributions to improve the coastal or ocean environment and their demonstrated ability to balance business interests with environmental need."

"Organic Style" magazine featured PCSGA member Laurra Lyden-McGregor of Lyden Shellfish as "one of eight extraordinary women who are...making our country a safer, healthier, and more beautiful place."

In 2006, the National Shellfisheries Association presented its David H. Wallace award to Bill Dewey, also of Taylor Shellfish, for his longstanding efforts to promote research, understanding, and cooperation among shellfish scientists, culturists, managers, producers and regulators.
